Scofflaw Brewing Co.
Hello again fellow beer buffs and welcome back to the latest installment of Beers with Brandon! I hope you have enjoyed the content so far because today we are going to look at Scofflaw Brewing Co. located at 1738 MacArthur Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA. This brewery was co-founded in August 2016 by former Wall Street executive Matt Shirah and renowned Brewmaster Travis Herman who bonded over their mutual love and respect for craft beers. What was once described as an amateur operation in the basement of Shiah's mother-in-law quickly grew into the 18,000 square foot facility they have now over the span of just two short years effectively doubling their output capacity. Despite being newer to the brewing industry when compared to other breweries in the area, Scofflaw had established themselves as one of the best new craft breweries in American during their first year of operations according to Beer Advocate and USA Today. Unlike other breweries I've talked about they do not offer food but suggest you either bring your own or order something for delivery because these guys are strictly focused on producing outstanding beer. What makes Scofflaw stand out from their competition is their large concentration on brewing high gravity IPA's making them much stronger and more flavorful with the ABV's ranging from 7.5%-10.5%.
Of all the beers they produce none is more loved or better known than their Basement IPA paying homage to their roots starting their company in a basement where this beer was originally developed. With a hefty ABV of 7.5% this 16oz draft emits an aroma of juicy citrus and hints of earthy tones stemming from the Citra hops used in the process. Although this beer is considered strong it does not overwhelm the drinker with a bitter taste commonly associated with high gravity drinks but instead offers a fruity bitterness upfront and a smooth malty finish. If you're in the mood for something a little stronger look no further than the Double Jeopardy IPA coming in at 10% ABV. When poured you will notice the distinct hazy golden orange coloring accompanied by a thick white foam and a sweet scent with sprinkles of hops and pine. As far as taste there are favorable notions of tropical fruits followed by just the right number of hops mixed with an inkling of caramel to give it a sweet finish and over all balanced flavor. For those who are not into beers fear not for Scofflaw has its own brand of hard seltzers including black cherry, Georgia peach, and lime flavors. Thank you once again for joining me and be on the lookout for my next review!
